modular moves is an exploratory project; doing experiments as a tool to gain understanding plays an important role, examples of wearables is another. To give some structure and visualize the intended work process I made a model, and call it method sample examples (at least for now).

In short, examples are gathered, and mapped, aspect are extracted by analysis, then the aspects are used as parameters for generating ideas, and concepts.
The collection of examples, play different roles, and are used for various reasons: (1) they guide and help finding direction, to frame and defining the area; (2) modular moves is positioned in relation, and with reference to the examples which together form a map of the research area; (3) and the examples of wearables are sources for inspiration.
To uncover the qualities, or aspects embedded within the design examples, I´m using critiquing techniques described by Bardzell. My version of a “close reading”, would probably be a Critiquing Light.

Week 1 – blog name chosen, – moduar moves – which happen to become name of thesis project as well, at least for now. Thesis semester started off with class meeting Monday 18 Jan. Very good… we are having weekly meetings where we present our individual projects, very informal in its format, and we give each other feedback / critique. Personally, those meetings are super valuable, they give structure on 20 weeks of solo work.
Blog set up… class meeting held… met my adviser as well, Kristina Lindström. Thinkering of experiment, directions came up with the model “cycle of sth” – will present it more in detail later on… beside logging thoughts and activities, examples of wearables will be presented, selections of what will become, and be part of my “collection of examples”. Mapping the area of wearables is one main reason of gathering examples; another reason is of course for inspiration; and in this project I´ll use the design examples in the process. First week – first post – first example:

ClickSneaks – Despina Papadopoulos, Studio 5050 with Thomas Gregotiandes (2005). My ambition is as well to use “critique techniques”, do close “readings” of examples, – though, playfulness and simplicity will do for now.
